Sometimes chicken (whole or parts) has an unpleasant smell, especially frozen ones after thawing.  It is not the spoilt smell, but more like chicken odours. The best way to get rid of it is to rub a lot of salt over it for few minutes, and rinse away the salt. Not exactly sure why, but my guess is 1 of the following 2 reasons. Salt dehydrate the surface (Skin and meat that are exposed) by osmosis and hence remove the smell with the water, or, salt is a great disinfectant and kill and remove all bacteria that is probably sticking on the surface.

No it will not. It only take a few minutes, (not marinate), more like bathing the chicken :)
